The Augusta University softball team concluded its 2025 regular season on Senior Day with a doubleheader against Lander University. Despite a thrilling walk-off victory the previous day, Augusta faced tough losses, with Game 1 ending 13-3 and Game 2 at 7-1. Star player Bailee Roberts showcased impressive skills throughout the series, but the team couldn’t overcome Lander’s strong performance. With a final record of 29-27, Augusta looks ahead to future opportunities, celebrating the contributions of their senior players.
This past weekend in Augusta, Georgia, the Augusta University softball team faced off against Lander University for a doubleheader that concluded their 2025 regular season. Excitement filled Jaguar Field as fans and family gathered to honor the senior players, but the day brought more than just celebrations; it also came with tough losses.
Just a day before, on April 25, Augusta seemed to have the magic touch, clinching a thrilling walk-off victory against Lander, ending the game with a heart-pounding score of 3-2. The energy was palpable as the team celebrated the win, hoping to carry that momentum into Senior Day. However, the doubleheader did not unfold as they had hoped.
The first game of the doubleheader on April 26 quickly took a turn for the worse. Lander jumped out to an early lead, racking up four unearned runs in the first inning. Augusta fought back but struggled to keep pace as Lander tightened their grip and scored runs in five out of six subsequent innings. Augusta managed to score three runs, powered primarily by an impressive two-run double from standout player Bailee Roberts in the third inning. Despite Roberts’ powerful performance, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs, the Jaguars ultimately fell short, losing 13-3. Other contributors included Nevaeh Ross and Cadance Winder, who each registered a hit, and Kaylynn Scaffe, who crossed home plate twice during the game.
Looking to bounce back in Game 2, Augusta was the first to score, with Roberts driving in a run during the bottom of the first with an RBI double. Unfortunately, the excitement didn’t last long as Lander quickly responded. They scored in the second inning and produced a two-run rally in the third to grab the lead. Augusta had their share of opportunities but struggled defensively, often stranding runners in scoring positions which proved costly. The game continued to slip away as Lander piled on two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh, leading to a final score of 7-1 in favor of the visiting team.
Bailee Roberts was undoubtedly the star of the series, finishing Game 2 with another impressive performance, tallying two hits along with her prior two-run double earlier in the week. Overall, she showcased an exceptional talent throughout the series, ending with five hits, including three doubles. Grace Bailey also contributed in Game 2, collecting two hits herself.
In terms of pitching, Madalyn Spinks started Game 2, delivering a solid effort over six innings before handing the ball off to Ansley Gibson, who wrapped up the game. Despite the losses on Senior Day, Augusta finished the regular season with a record of 29 wins and 27 losses—7-17 in Peach Belt Conference play.
As Augusta University softball wraps up the season, the focus now shifts toward the future and the opportunities ahead. With such resilient athletes and a supportive community behind them, the Jaguars have every reason to keep their heads high.
